St. Johns County/City of St. Augustine RWIS Deployment
Project Description: This project will deploy Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) in St. Johns County and the City of St. Augustine. The RWIS monitors and measures surface weather conditions (e.g., air temperature, wind speed, precipitation, visibility, water levels (flood monitoring)) as measured and reported by fixed and/or mobile environmental sensors. Bridge wind sensors have already been implemented.

Project Functional Requirements (Element - Functional Object):
-
City of St. Augustine Field Equipment - Roadway Environmental Monitoring
-
1: The field element shall include surface and sub-surface environmental sensors that measure road surface temperature, moisture, icing, salinity, and other measures.
-
2: The field element shall include environmental sensors that measure weather conditions including temperature, wind, humidity, precipitation, and visibility.

2: The field element shall include environmental sensors that measure weather conditions including temperature, wind, humidity, precipitation, and visibility.
-
St. Johns County TMC - TMC Environmental Monitoring
-
1: The traffic center shall remotely control environmental sensors that measure road surface conditions including temperature, moisture, icing, salinity, and other measures.
-
2: The traffic center shall remotely control environmental sensors that measure weather conditions including temperature, wind, humidity, precipitation, and visibility.
-
3: The traffic center shall assimilate current and forecast road conditions and surface weather information using a combination of weather service provider information (such as the National Weather Service and value-added sector specific meteorological services), data from roadway maintenance operations, and environmental data collected from sensors deployed on and about the roadway.
-
4: The traffic center shall receive road condition information from weather service providers.
