The Regional ITS Architecture provides a starting point for project definition. It provides an overall framework that shows how anticipated projects will integrate with each other and with existing systems. This page lists all the ITS projects that have been mapped to the regional ITS architecture.

Short term projects are scheduled for the next 5 years. Medium term projects are scheduled for between 5 - 10 years. Long term projects are scheduled for more than 10 years.

SFRTA CAD Upgrade Planned Long This project will upgrade the SFRTA computer aided dispatch (CAD) capabilities on SFRTA trains.
SFRTA Passenger Counting Planned Long This project would add automated passenger counting to SFRTA vehicles.
South Florida ICM Planned Long This project would integrate information between regional traffic management systems in District 4, and create and ICM initiative to respond to traffic incidents in real time with a multimodal approach.
Southeast Florida Fare Management Infrastructure Planned Long This project would create a single back office system for fare management for Southeast Florida.
Broward County Signal Preemption/Priority Upgrades Planned Medium This project would upgrade the radio receivers and field cards to upgrade the signal priority and signal preemption capabilities of traffic signals in Broward County.
Broward County TOPS Online Reservations Planned Medium This project will create an online reservations system for paratransit in Broward County.
Broward County Transit APC Planned Medium This project will add automated passenger counting on Broward County Transit Vehicles
Broward County Transit Downtown Multimodal Facility Planned Medium This project is expected to increase transit ridership at the site and provide optimal connections to inter-regional high-speed rail (All Aboard Florida) and the BCT WAVE rail system.
Broward County Travel Time Planned Medium This project will gather travel times for current traffic conditions, either from third party providers or detectors deployed by Broward County.
City of Boca Raton Adaptive Signal Control Expansion Planned Medium This project will expand the City of Boca Raton's Adaptive Signal Control deployments to additional corridors in the city.
City of Fort Pierce Adaptive Traffic Control Planned Medium This project will deploy adaptive traffic signals on corridors in the City of Fort Pier.
City of Fort Pierce CCTV Expansion Planned Medium This project will expand the City of Fort Pierce CCTV capabilities to additional sections of the corridor.
City of Port St. Lucie Fiber Expansion Planned Medium This project would expand the City of Port St. Lucie fiber network, including tying in traffic signals to Port St. Lucie Traffic Operations.

Miami-Dade County ATMS NTCIP Upgrade Planned Medium Upgrade County ATMS central system into a fully NTCIP compliant
Miami-Dade County Incident Coordination Planned Medium This project will create a connection between Miami-Dade public safety centers and the Miami-Dade County TMC to exchange incident information.
Miami-Dade County Regional Integration Planned Medium This project will integrate regional transportation information by connecting the Miami-Dade TMC with the City of Miami-Beach TMC and the Miami-Dade Transit Control Center. Miami-Dade Transit will share transit information with the Miami-Dade Transit Control Center, and Miami-Dade TMC will share road network conditions and incident information with the Miami-Dade Transit Control Center. The Miami-Dade TMC will share signal timing plans and incident information with the City of Miami Beach TMC, and receive parking information and incident information.
Miami-Dade County TSM and O Expansion Planned Medium Expansion of TSM&O onto County-owned arterials
Miami-Dade SPAT Upgrade Planned Medium This project would upgrade Miami-Dade traffic signals to allows Signal Phase and Timing (SPAT) capability with connected vehicles.
Miami-Dade Traffic Controller Upgrade Planned Medium Countywide upgrade of traffic controllers from 170E Type to controllers meeting the requirements of Caltrans Unit Version 2070LX (Linux OS/NTCIP compliant software)
Miami-Dade Traffic Coordination Planned Medium This project will connect the Miami-Dade TCC to the FDOT District 6 SunGuide TMC. The two centers will exchange road network conditions and incident information.
Miami-Dade Travel Time Detection Planned Medium This project would deploy detectors to detect travel times on Miami-Dade roadways.
Mobility Traveler Experience Kiosks Planned Medium This project would upgrade Miami-Dade transit information kiosks at Miami-Dade transit stations to allow interactive traveler information, Wi-Fi and advertising.
Palm Beach Adaptive Traffic Control System Phase 2 Planned Medium Adaptive Traffic Control System on Glades Rd (3 intersections by FL Turnpike). Under design
Palm Beach Adaptive Traffic Control System Phase 3 Planned Medium Adaptive Traffic Control System on PGA Blvd (from FL Turnpike to US-1). This project is in the conceptual stage.
Palm Beach Adaptive Traffic Control System Phase 4 Planned Medium Adaptive Traffic Control System on Indiantown Rd . The dates are yet to determined but this project is on the MPO list of priorities.
Palm Beach Adaptive Traffic Control System Phase 5 Planned Medium Adaptive Traffic Control System on Glades Rd (Lyons Rd and east to Powerline Rd, excluding the 3 intersections by the Turnpike). This project is in the conceptual stage.
Palm Beach County Bicycle Detection System Planned Medium Bicycle Detection System using existing video detection cameras.
Palm Beach County Demand Based Signal Timing Planned Medium DBSR (Demand based Signal Timing). Research Project in development and evaluation in association with FAU, funded by FDOT.
SFRTA Mobile Ticketing Planned Medium This project will add mobile ticketing capabilities to SFRTA vehicles.
St. Lucie County Traffic Integration Planned Medium This project would connect the City of Fort Pierce, City of Port St. Lucie, and St. Lucie County traffic management systems to share traffic information and coordinate operations.
Broward County Real-Time Information System Planned Short This project will create a real-time information system for Broward County Transit, including onboard buses, website, IVR, mobile app, SMS, social network and Passenger Advisory Signs.
Broward County Transit CAD/AVL Planned Short This project will upgrade the CAD/AVL System for Broward County Transit.
Broward County Transit Signal Priority and Queue Jumpers Planned Short This project will add Transit Signal Priority and Queue Jumping Capability for Broward County Transit Vehicles.
Broward County Transit Yard Management System Planned Short This project will add sensors in garages and on bunches to manage maintenance for Broward County Transit.
Broward County Wave Streetcar Planned Short In FY 2018, BCT, as the Owner /Operator of the WAVE Streetcar system, will begin operations of the system's first line in downtown Fort Lauderdale. With the progress of the first 2.7-mile line in this system, the need to study future expansions of the system has arisen. In particular, Broward County is eager to explore expansions of the system into the areas in and around the Broward County Convention Center, Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. At this time, an FDOT-led study examining this extension is underway. An estimated extension is included in the Vision Plan for FY 2016-25. (CAD/AVL, mobile ticketing/ticket kiosk, surveillance system, coordination with bridge control, traffic signal system/TSP, etc.).
City of Fort Pierce Fiber Expansion Planned Short This project will lay fiber along the Orange Corridor in Fort Pierce and connect traffic signals to the City of Fort Pierce Engineering Department Traffic Control
City of Port St. Lucie Adaptive Traffic Control Planned Short This project would install an adaptive traffic control system on St. Lucie West Boulevard.
City of Port St. Lucie CCTV Upgrades Planned Short This ongoing project upgrades the CCTV and video detection capabilities for the City of Port St. Lucie.
FDOT District 4 Express Lanes Planned Short This project will create additional express lanes in FDOT District 4, specifically on I-95 and I-75. These implementation include ramp metering.
FDOT District 4 Wireless Network Device Deployment Planned Short This pilot project will deploy leased ITS devices, such as cameras and sensors, operating on a wireless network to test the effectiveness of wireless technology for ITS devices in the region.
Indian River County Adaptive Signal System Planned Short This project will create an adaptive signal system on one corridor in Indian River County.
Martin County Fixed-Route Transit Service Planned Short This project will develop and initial fixed-route transit service for Martin County.
Miami-Dade CCTV Expansion Planned Short Expand CCTV capabilities on County Roadways for improved traffic monitoring
Miami-Dade Transit Operational System Replacement Project Planned Short This project will upgrade the Miami-Dade Transit AVL System. This will include an upgrade of a new communication system and on-board infrastructure. In addition, this project will upgrade the transit signal priority capabilities of Miami-Dade Transit, add new signage at bus stops, upgrade the bus control center, and include real-time transit information for customers on 9 bus routes.
Palm Beach County Adaptive Traffic Control System Deployments Planned Short Adaptive Traffic Control System Deployments. Okeechobee Blvd (downtown West Palm Beach) and Northlake Blvd (Military Tr to US-1)- completed in Sep 2015; total 25 intersections (Design Build Project through FDOT).
Palm Beach County ATIS Planned Short ATIS on SR80/Southern Blvd from Royal Palm Beach Blvd to Dixie Hwy (travel time, CCTV and DMS). Under design (Design Build Project through FDOT). To be completed by mid 2016.
Palm Beach County C2C Communications Planned Short Center to Center communications. PBC TMC to Broward TMC for enabling FDOT operations from either locations.
Palm Beach County Dilemma Zone Control System Planned Short Dilemma Zone Control System. Two locations, one recently installed in Belle Glades area and one in design on Beeline Hwy at Indiantown Rd.
Palm Beach County ITS Communications Network Expansion and Upgrades Planned Short ITS Communications network expansion and upgrades. Currently 475 miles of fiber maintained by the County; 124 CCTV, 28 Bluetooth systems for travel time data collection, 7 Wavetronix systems.
Palm Beach County Military Tr ATIS Planned Short Military Tr ATIS. Safety thru ITS Management (from lake Worth Rd to S. of Southern Blvd). CCTVS, Video Detection, Trail Blazer Signs. Under design.
Palm Beach County Transit Signal Priority Planned Short TSP. Scope developed, to be advertised within the next 6 months; initially two routes. Palm Tran 42 and Palm Tran 63. The TSP system will function through a server-based, back-end system betwen the transit and traffic management centers.
Palm Beach County TSM and O Program Planned Short TSM&O Program. Monitor travel times on arterials, identify congestion, incidents and perform active arterial management - initiated in 2013, funded by FDOT.
Palm Beach County Video Detection System Upgrades Planned Short Upgrading to video detection system at mast arm signals. This is a continuous project.
Palm Beach County Virtual Priority System Planned Short Virtual Priority System. A server based fire priority system that integrates AVL and CAD systems with the traffic signal system, ATMS.now. Currently just under 20% of the traffic signals have been added to this system.
Palm Tran MDT Upgrades Planned Short This project would update Palm Tran mobile data terminals (MDT)s communications capability.
Palmetto Express Lanes Planned Short The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six (Miami-Dade County) and FDOT District Four (Broward County) are working together to implement express lanes along 28 miles of the SR 826/Palmetto Expressway and I-75 corridors from just south of SR 836/Dolphin Expressway in Miami-Dade County to I-595 in Broward County. In a collaborative effort, both districts will jointly manage the procurement, design, and construction of the following six (6) project segments: FDOT District Six is implementing the I-75/Palmetto Express Lanes Project (Palmetto Express) in Miami-Dade County which extends approximately 10 miles along the Palmetto Expressway from West Flagler Street to NW 154 Street, and approximately three (3) miles along I-75 from the Palmetto Expressway to NW 170 Street. For additional information on the I-75/Palmetto Express project in Miami-Dade County, please contact Marta.Rodriguez@dot.state.fl.us. FDOT District Four will be responsible for the five (5) project segments from I-595 south to NW 170 Street (15 miles).
Regional EASY Card Compatibility Planned Short This project would install smart card readers on Palm Tran and Broward County Transit vehicles that are compatible with the Miami-Dade Transit EASY Card .
SFRTA Real-Time Traveler Information Planned Short This project will bring real-time transit information to SFRTA customers.
