JTA AVL Probe Data

Project Description: This project will allow FDOTD2 to gather probe information from the JTA AVL system. FDOT D2 currently has access to the AVL data, but has not yet fed this data into SunGuide.

Project Functional Requirements (Element - Functional Object):

• FDOT District 2 RTMC - TMC Situation Data Management
• 2: The center shall collect road condition data from probe-equipped transit vehicles via transit management centers; the data may be aggregated and preliminarily processed at the sending center.


• FDOT DIVAS - TIC Situation Data Management
• 3: The center shall collect road condition data from probe-equipped transit vehicles via transit management centers.
• 5: The center shall aggregate collected traffic probe data, calculate route segment travel times, route segment speeds, route usage, and road weather information for dissemination to other centers.


• Jacksonville Transit Fixed-Route Systems - Transit Center Vehicle Tracking
• 4: The center shall provide collected transit probe data to traffic management centers and traveler information service providers for use in measuring current traffic conditions.

Project Operational Concepts:

Roles and Responsibilities

• FDOT District 2
• Collect vehicle probe informaiton from transit vehicles.
• Collect vehicle probe information using roadside equipment and calculate travel times.
• Control and coordinate highway traffic with lane control signals on FDOT highways.
• Coordinate traffic information with other FDOT District transportation management centers (TMCs).
• Operate and coordinate traffic control devices, traffic sensors, and CCTVs on FDOT freeways, including the ability to control traffic on overflow ramps.
• Receive incident information, incident response status, and resource requests from the EOC/warning points.

• Provide transit vehicle probe data to FDOT District 2.
