FDOT District 4 Train Vehicle Crash Avoidance Pilot Project

Project Description: This project will deploy technology solutions to mitigate crashes and hazards at railroad crossings by reducing the number of vehicles stopped on railroad tracks. The system will be composed of queue detection systems, highlighted signs, and connected vehicle (CV) components to provide drivers with warning alerts of upcoming traffic queues. Providing advanced warning is likely to reduce secondary crashes and improve mobility and safety. The five (5) Railroad (RR) Crossings for this pilot project identified by FDOT are Okeechobee Boulevard (SR 704), Hollywood Boulevard (SR 820), Hallandale Beach Boulevard (SR 858), Commercial Boulevard (SR 870) and Forest Hill Boulevard (SR 882).
