FDOT State Traffic Engineering and Operations Office

Description: The FDOT Traffic Engineering and Operations Office provides support and expertise in the application of traffic engineering principles and practices to improve safety and mobility. This office is responsible for several program areas such as Traffic Engineering Studies, Signing, Services, Traffic Incident Management, and Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O). The TSM&O section is responsible for four main areas including (1) SunGuide software management and ITS architecture updates, (2) telecommunications to support ITS deployments, (3) Florida advanced traveler information system management and (4) arterial management.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Archived Data Management for Florida Statewide Services ITS Architecture
• Coordinate archiving information with other FDOT data warehouses.
• Coordinate traffic archive data with third party archive providers.
• Collect and coordinate fiber management information with FDOT Districts.
• Manages and maintains an archive for ITS fiber management of ITS devices.

Commercial Vehicle Operations for Florida Statewide Services ITS Architecture
• Collect traffic information; incident information; multimodal information; maintenance and construction information; work zone information; and weather information, and provide it to the public via Florida 511 and private sector information providers
• Provide parking information to commercial vehicle drivers via roadside signage, as well as through smartphone applications or websites.

FDOT ATMS Software Enhancement Roles and Responsibilities
• Collect traffic information; incident information; multimodal information; maintenance and construction information; work zone information; and weather information, and provide it to the public via Florida 511 and private sector information providers
• Coordinate archiving information with other regional safety or crash data collection systems.
