WX03: Spot Weather Impact Warning (FDOT District 1 I-75 Fog Detection System)

Definition:

The Spot Weather Impact Warning service package for FDOT District 1 I-75 Fog Detection System will alert drivers to unsafe conditions or road closure at specific points on the downstream roadway as a result of weather-related impacts, which include, but are not limited to high winds, flood conditions, ice, or fog. The service packages is designed to use standalone weather systems to warn drivers about inclement weather conditions that may impact travel conditions. Real time weather information is collected from fixed environmental sensor stations and vehicle based sensors. The information is processed to determine the nature of the alert or warning to be delivered and then communicated to connected vehicles. If the warning includes road closure then diversion information can be provided. For non-equipped vehicles the alerts or warnings will be provided via roadway signage. In addition, the roadway equipment may calculate the appropriate speed for current weather conditions and provide this information to the connected vehicle or on roadway signage.
