Sarasota County BRT
Project Description: This project would create a dedicated lane for buses on the Ringling Causeway. Currently, there is a breakdown lane on the causeway, which would be converted to a bus–only lane. In addition, this project may include transit signal priority for buses.

1: The field element shall collect, process, digitize, and send traffic sensor data (speed, volume, and occupancy) to the center for further analysis and storage, under center control.

Sarasota County SCAT Fixed Route Transit Vehicles - Transit Vehicle Signal Priority

1: The transit vehicle shall determine the schedule deviation and estimated times of arrival (ETA) at transit stops.

2: The transit vehicle shall send priority requests to traffic signal controllers at intersections, pedestrian crossings, and multimodal crossings on the roads (surface streets) and freeway (ramp controls) network that enable a transit vehicle schedule deviation to be corrected.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Sarasota County Public Works Department
- Provide transit signal priority to SCATfixed-route vehicles.
- Sarasota County Area Transit
- Obtain traffic signal priority from the Sarasota County TSCS using Sarasota County roadside field equipment for SCAT fixed-route transit vehicles.
- Track and evaluate schedule performance on all SCAT fixed-route and paratransit vehicles.
- Manatee County Area Traffic Agencies
- Operate traffic signal systems in cooperation with the cities of Bradenton, Sarasota and the counties of Manatee and Sarasota.
- Provide transit signal priority for transit vehicles.
